ABOUT I CAN RESEARCH CENTRE
Kerala, once proudly known as 'God’s Own Country', is now grappling with a growing crisis—widespread garbage accumulation. This serious issue has become a major concern for the government. In response to the challenges of waste reuse and management over the past few years, the I CAN Research Centre was established.
This institute has developed three innovative and practical solutions to tackle the waste problem effectively. The patented technologies and trademarked products from I CAN Research Centre allow for efficient disposal of household waste at the source. Not only does this help manage waste, but it also generates energy, which can be used to offset the operational costs of the equipment.
Additionally, the byproduct—organic fertilizer—can be used to revive and promote traditional organic farming practices across Kerala. To encourage public participation, there is a proposal to introduce the ‘Haridhabhavanam’ certificate under the ‘Haritha Keralam’ mission, awarded to households that adopt these sustainable waste management solutions.
Looking ahead, the Centre’s next major project focuses on treating wastewater from hotels, marriage halls, and similar establishments through eco-friendly green farming techniques.
